Martić, Pavić and Mektić and their partners were eliminated in the 1st round of the tournament in Washington

Mate Pavić opened a terrible day for Croatian tennis. He was stopped in the first round by the American Austin Krajicek. At the first hurdle at the ATP tournament in Washington, the British Daniel Evans and Andy Murray were more successful than them with 6-3 6-3. For Pavić, this is the second tournament after Wimbledon and the termination of two and a half years of successful cooperation with Nikola Mektic. During their collaboration, they won 17 tournaments, including Wimbledon in 2021 and Olympic gold in Tokyo. Last week, he played with Dodig, otherwise Krajicek’s partner, in Hamburg but also lost.

Speaking of Mektic, he also lost in the first round. He lost the 2nd round of doubles with Dutchman Robin Hase. More successful than them were the Argentines Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni. The Dutch won 6-7 (5), 7-6 (7), 10-8. Mektic and Hae failed to realize four match points, and they were punished with a defeat in an extended tie-break.

Petra Martić made sure that the day was disastrous, and she performed with the Greek Marija Sakkari. The Americans Jennifer Brady and Madison Keys were better than them. The score with which the American women defeated the Croatian-Graca couple was 6-3, 1-6, 10-2. Martić will also compete in the individual category today, and her opponent will be the Romanian Sorana Cistea.
