Martić was stopped at the first hurdle. She succumbed to the Romanian tennis player after a series of missed opportunities

Washington is not a happy tournament for our tennis players. Although she led 5-2 in the second set, Petra Martić allowed the Romanian to take four games in a row. Although she returned the serve at 6-6, she lost the second match in the tie-break.

Sorana Cirstea defeated the Croatian tennis player 6-3, 7-6 (13) in their fourth match, and it was the second victory of the tennis player from Romania. Cirstea won the first three games, only for Martić to respond in kind. As if everything is going full circle, the Romanian wins three rounds and retakes the first set.

The second part of the match was incomprehensible for Martić. She had a series of missed opportunities, although the Croatian led 4-1 and had four options for another break. Martić led 5-2 but inexplicably allowed the opponent to win four games without reaching a set point. She served Cirste for the win, but it ended up being decided in a tie-break.

Martić led 6-3 and had a chance to tie the match against the Romanian, but Cristea took the lead. After she failed to realize in the last points, Martić succumbed on serve, and the Romanian won the first round. In the second round, Cristea will play against the eighth seed – Russian Ljudmila Samsonova, 18th on the WTA list.
