FRIGAN FROM RIJEKA TO BELGIUM

HNK RIjeka, Croatia, Westerlo

The striker from Rujevica will continue his career in Belgium. Frigan should soon undergo an official medical examination at the new club

Although he is on Dinamo’s radar, Matija Frigan is a new player for Westerlo. He should sign a contract with the Belgian Premier League as early as Friday, and the amount of the compensation is 5.5 million euros with bonuses of up to 0.5 million euros. That he could leave Rijeka has been known for a long time, and many Croatian media have written about it. It was reported that Rijeka would not agree to less than 6 million euros, which, along with bonuses, they got.

There was interest in Frigan, and some clubs that sought his services were New York City, Sunderland, and Dinamo Zagreb, which could not afford such a sum for such a transfer. By going to the Belgian league, Frigan will be the second Croatian. Otherwise, Stipe Perica defends the colors of Standard from Liege.

Frigan was a great wish of Igor Bišćan, who led him in the young Croatian national team, and Frigan wanted to join Dinamo to be closer to his family. He exploded last season under the leadership of coach Sergej Jakirović scored 15 goals, and had three assists in 31 games for Rijeka.

This is the second most expensive transfer in the history of Rijeka. Namely, in 2015, Leicester allocated 9 million euros to Andrej Kramarić. Whether Rijeka will bring in a new striker or a player of a different type remains to be seen.
