WHAT AWAITS US IN THE 2024 YEAR OF SPORT?

Another year has passed, but what awaits us in the coming year?

The start of the new year 2024 brings us two big competitions. The European water polo championship was taken away from Israel and was given to Croatia on trust for the organization of the European water polo championship. The European Championship will take place from January 4th to January 16th in Zagreb and Dubrovnik. The handball EURO will take place in Germany, lasting from January 10 to January 28. Sweden’s handball national team is defending their championship title.

The Youth Olympic Games will be held from January 19 to February 1, and the South Korean city of Gangwon will host the Games. We will see what happens here as a small prelude to the Games that take place in the summer of this year.

From February 2nd to February 18th, the World Aquatics Championships will be held in Doha, the capital of Qatar. At the beginning of March, the World Indoor Athletics Championships will take place, and the host city is Glasgow, Scotland.

At the end of February, the Croatian women’s national football team will play in the playoffs for the highest ranking of the UEFA Nations League, and Croatia’s opponent is Norway. A very difficult opponent, it is almost impossible to get past him. But we wish them good luck in those matches.

The futsal national team will play in a playoff for the World Futsal Championship, which is held in Uzbekistan, in April. The fourth Rally Croatia will be held from April 18 to April 21. May everyone be happy.

At the end of March, more precisely, from March 21 to March 26, the playoff for the football EURO 2024 will be held in Germany. All places in EURO groups will then be filled. The World Ice Hockey Championship will be held in May, and the Czech Republic will host the tournament. The tournament will be held from May 10 to May 26, and Canada will defend the champion title.

The end of May and beginning of June are reserved for UEFA club finals of all its competitions. The UEFA Europa League final is scheduled for May 22 in Dublin, the UEFA Conference League final will be held in Athens on May 29, and the UEFA Champions League final will be held in London on June 1 at Wembley Stadium.

The summer of 2024 has many sports competitions booked. EURO 2024 will be held from 14 June to 14 July in Germany. At the tournament, 24 national teams will fight for the title of European champion, and the favorites are France, Spain, and Portugal, and do not write off Croatia easily. Italy is defending the championship title.

In the same period, the South American continental competition – Copa America – will take place. The tournament will be held in the USA, and Argentina is defending the championship. In addition to the ten South American national teams, six national teams from CONCACAF will participate.

After the football competitions, from July 26 to August 11, the Olympic Games will be held in Paris. After that, the Paralympic Games will also take place. The World Futsal Championship will be held in September in Uzbekistan. After a hot and stormy summer, a slight lull will come. And then the EURO for handball women will take place. The tournament will take place in Austria, Hungary, and Switzerland, and will last from November 28 to December 15.

In the shadow of football and Olympic events, the playoffs for UEFA competitions will be played, including the Europa League, Conference League, and Champions League. We hope that the Croatian clubs will manage to make a result because one club cannot drag the whole league.

The first tennis Grand Slam tournament will be held traditionally in Australia from January 15 to January 28. The second such tournament is Roland Garros, which will take place from May 26 to June 8 in France. Summer is not summer if the biggest Grand Slam is not played, which is Wimbledon, which will take place from July 1 to July 14. Last on the schedule is the US Open, which will be held from August 26 to September 8 in New York City.
